We are in panic mode again at the widget factory.
I'll be working 1pm to 10pm weekdays and then putting in five or so
hours on Saturday.
that's a panic mode? hell, what mode am i in then?
No one knows, Dag, no one knows.
say, what are widgets exactly? are those the buttons that tell me "Donate to XXX through Firstgiving online!"? and suchlike?
and why do all of a sudden people need many of them?
i was so well intended to go to the gym. Got in my workout clothes, but thought I should eat a bit first...well in advance. But i got tired instead (happens if you work in "no one knows" mode) and am still sitting here staring at the screen. oh well.

They're kinda like digital cameras on steroids.
Lotsa folks wanna know what lotsa other folks are up to.
So George, you work for Big Brother!
And, you call THAT "panic mode":
"We are in panic mode again at the widget factory.
I'll be working 1pm to 10pm weekdays and then putting in five or so
hours on Saturday."
That's almost exactly my normal schedule (only sometimes it's saturday, sometimes it's sunday, depending on the expected news).

Certainly not!
Now turn to the left, look up, and smile.
Dag: do what everyone else does - Call the specialist's office and and tell them you will take any cancellation at a moment's notice. Don't whine. Don't sound desperate. Be extra bouncy friendly with the person on the phone, or better, go to the office (you were just in the neighorhood) and, after saying to the person with the pencil how really busy you know they are, tell him or her that you will take any cancellation at a moment's notice. (you might want to clear this with your sweet boss or not)
Twice, not once but twice, I've gone to the completely booked dermo genius woman doctor of mine's office after being told two months --- and had them say "Well, if you can stay now, she can see you in thirty minutes." "Thank you", I said reaching for the six year old copy of American Dermatology Review and taking a seat. (odd wart thingie, nothing. And strange white lumpy blob on middle of back [lipoma], also nothing.)
George: you ( and I say this with love in my heart and respect) dumbass!
PM me if you want my super duper series of slowmo yoga moves that will prevent you from ever having back pain again. Unless you overload the frigging machines, you showoff.
Then we have to talk about your schedule. I want that schedule. 1pm to 10pm. Great. you get home, go to bed, get seven hours sleep and STILL have enough time in the morning to run six to ten miles before returning home for a leisurely lunch. (Unless you have an hour commute or something)
I hope you feel better soon, I hate being injured.

I think he was saying the 1 to 10 gig is in addition to the standard weekday stuff. I could be wrong.
Back stuff sucks, both of my folks have back issues and it's not fun for either of 'em. Take good care of yourself.
In the meantime, I did more closet shopping yesterday. Still, maddeningly, not down another size, but I'm just saying to hell with it and pitching older Winter-type big clothes anyway (in my current size) as it's virtually impossible for me to be that size in 6 months or whenever it starts to get cold again.

Gymmed.
Passed the track on the way there and shuddered a bit. That was tough, but that's why it's good. We have an appt. for round two on Monday.

Good performance, good planning.
Took a slow stroll for about a mile and a quarter.
I felt stiff at first, but loosened up a bit as I went.
Then I took a steamy shower.
Felt great.
Good. Take it easy, friend. A nice and easy massage would be a good thing, too.
Starting a part two map..... .
Where am I? 2.6 miles short of a 100 mile month with four days to go.
("Why don't I ever look at the chart before I start running?" he mumbled to himself. Because I don't want to spend the run looking at the distance readout on my watch.)
I could have easily hit a hundred yesterday but was having too much fun listening to birds celebrate and watching the squirrels dig out the last acorns in their larders. (Saw one in a hole so deep that only the tip of his tail was showing above the fallen leaves.)
239.3 miles for the year in 42:35:17 or about 5.6 miles an hour avg.
Still a hundred miles behind the pace (avg for year about 14 miles a week, but going to be at about 25 miles a week for this month so.. happy happy.

i will go running after Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.

Just got done with my long run this week (11.04 miles). Updated training totals are below.
1st marathon training results
Week 1 = 15.01mi, 163 min, Goal = 15mi
Week 2 = 17.22mi, 194 min, Goal = 16mi
Week 3 = 5.12mi, 57 min, Goal = 18mi (got sick)
Week 4 = 17.99mi, 217 min, Goal = 19mi
Week 5 = 21.27mi, 220 min, Goal = 21mi
Week 6 = 22.15mi, 231 min, Goal = 22mi
Week 7 = Goal = 24mi
George/Joe, quick question....my splits for my run today are below (I love my Garmin). I've never trained for a marathon before and I could use some help to determine if I'm working too hard or not hard enough. When I run my shorter runs (3-6 milers) my heart rate is almost always near the mid 160's. I know that pace is unsustainable over marathon distances, but I really don't know what heart rate I should be striving for.
OR, are there any good books/websites you'd recommend and I'll figure it out myself.
Thanks for your help.
Format below is Mile, Time, Avg Heart Rate, Max Heart Rate
Mile 1, 11:44 min, 122 bpm, 140 bpm
Mile 2, 11:42 min, 127 bpm, 141 bpm
Mile 3, 11:44 min, 127 bpm, 143 bpm
Mile 4, 11:18 min, 136 bpm, 147 bpm
Mile 5, 11:28 min, 130 bpm, 148 bpm
Mile 6, 11:23 min, 134 bpm, 145 bpm
Mile 7, 11:17 min, 130 bpm, 138 bpm
Mile 8, 11:07 min, 135 bpm, 146 bpm
Mile 9, 10:40 min, 140 bpm, 148 bpm
Mile 10, 9:54 min, 148 bpm, 154 bpm
Mile 11, 9:50 min, 146 bpm, 153 bpm
Wow, lots of great progress here. Yesterday was a cleaning day. 2 hours for me and 4 (!) for RP. I used to only be able to do maybe a half an hour (no wonder our house is a godawful mess most of the time).
More cleaning today.
Maporshce: You seem to be running pretty steady throughout. I think it's less about heartrates and more about how you feel two days after a long run. Does your Marathon Training Schedule give you daily distance goals?
Looking back at mine it was:
M off T 3 w3 th3 fr off sa 15 su 3 =24
Those 3s I did at a little greater tempo (maybe for you about 9:30 - 9:40 Pace) the long runs I did at the pace I wanted to run the Marathon in.
Find Bob Glover's book THE RUNNER's HANDBOOK. It's packed with stuff you should know about being on the road for 5 and a half hours with 30,000 strangers.

Yes, go!
Meanwhile, managed to do 2 miles today (which seems particularly pitiful next to maporsche's log, but is a step up for me!) Ran 1, walked 1. Planned to do the same as last time but after we did the third walking lap we both felt like we still had some juice, and went for it. Did the last running lap slower than the previous 3 though.
Exercising WITH someone definitely makes a difference -- I really don't think I would've done it today without her. Busy day, went to the doctor, had blood drawn, cold and wet outside, just bleh. Really didn't want to go but of course didn't want to leave her in the lurch, looking around for me in the cold and wet... but now that I've done it I feel great.
Less whupped than last time.
We're set for Wednesday. Plan to do it 2 x a week for a while (as well as gymming 1-2 X a week), then 3 x a week after we've settled in a bit.
