Rehab for a Torn Achilles Tendon?

I'm writing a college film, and I need to know. When you tear an Achilles tendon is it standard for a patient to undergo a rehab (not just a period of being off his feet and hobbling around in a walking boot) but a time where the patient is visiting a doctor or a chiropractor or some person certified in something that gives the rehab a ?'professional' touch?
