CARNATION, Wash. (AP) - Six people were found dead early Wednesday at a house near the small town of Carnation, King County sheriff's deputies said.
Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Laing said several of the bodies were discovered about 8 a.m. at the home in the 1800 block of 346th Avenue Northeast by a neighbor who had gone over to check on the family.
The property, part of a cluster of residences at the end of a long dirt road, includes a house and a mobile home. Sheriff's Det. Bob Conner Conner would not say whether the bodies were discovered inside or out of the structures, but detectives have towed away a black pickup truck sealed with evidence tape.
Authorities were releasing few details as the investigation got under way. Conner would not say how the people died, their ages, or whether any weapons were found. Investigators had not yet determined when the victims died, he said.
Laing said the dead appeared to include at least two adults and a child.
Conner referred to the deaths as homicides, and Laing said earlier that they were not caused by carbon monoxide or other accident. Investigators at the scene told KOMO 4 News that they're searching for the victims' killer, but said murder-suicide is one possibility.
"We're still gathering evidence," Conner told reporters the mostly rural area about 21 miles east of Seattle. "At this point, you'll see a lot of people coming in and out. That's because we're still bringing in detectives due to the complexity of this investigation."
The property is in a wooded area. Detectives were searching the nearby properties, but Conner would not say why.
However, he added: "I can assure you there's no threat at this point to any neighbors living in this area."
