I have read that man came from apes.

Are the words in bold correctly used and is there any other error in the above sentence?

Many thanks.

Yes, the words in bold are correct. The rest of the sentence is ok, but it would be better to say "I have read that man descended from apes." As written, the wording is kind of vague.

These days, many people feel that "man" is a sexist way of denoting the human race, and perhaps "descended" is better than "came", and I would use "the apes" because we don't mean "some apes".

I have read that the human race is descended from the apes.

"I have read" is fine.
