The most liberal Christmas song in the world

The Christmas song "Do You Hear What I Hear" has a line to the effect that there is a child shivering in the cold, let us bring Him silver and gold.

That is the quintessential liberal solution to a socio-economic problem that government policy had caused to begin with- throw money at it.

I presume you are being facetious, but I am not sure, since you strike me as the kind of person (a sUxx0r) feels like a big man whose chief amusement is posting anti-"liberal" rants on webforums. Surely you understand that the "child" is the same one who is given gold, frankinsense and myrrh in a certain well-known story? Those three things would not fit the tune, I expect.

He was not given gold, franinsense and myrh because of a government program, but in the song it is the King, i.e., the government that is ordering that He be given silver and gold.

He thinks that a state where the government is the king is run by "liberals"...

Then the problems of the homeless Jewish family could have been solved by getting Joseph a job. Government housing. Prenatal care at a free clinic. Let's just have another version that emphasizes getting the homeless back on their feet.

By the way, why were they homeless?

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Oh wait, maybe that's conservative. It is about exploiting your talents while ignoring the non-politically correct jabs of others? Or selling yourself in a freak show?

Hmmm.

No wait, it has to be Jingle Bells. "Dashing Through the Snow, in a One Horse Open Sleigh".

Only a poor person would have a one horse open sleigh. I feel bad for them. They should have a team of Clydesdales and an enclosed carriage ornamented with gold and silver.

Yeah, yeah!

Lookit - a source known only as "Night Wind" starts this little 1st century game of telephone that ends up with the king asking people to pray for peace.

If that isn't liberal garbage I don't know what is.

If the king were to divert some of his welfare spending and put it towards war chariots he could give Joseph a job (chariot bodies are made from wood, which Joseph would know about since he was a carpenter), and then if the prayers for peace went unanswered, the kingdom would be well able to defend itself and the war wouldn't last long.

flaja, I love this post.

Let's take it a step further.

Liberal Honchos like Hilary Clinton and John Kerry have described the 25th (yes I know this is a construct that aligns Christianity with pagan celebrations of the Winter Solstice) as a time when we celebrate the birth of a child by a homeless mother.

Obviously "homeless" is an emotive term for Liberals and any effort to connect it to Christian tradition is to be applauded ---by the very Liberals who scoff not only at Christ, but at God.

The reality is that Mary and Joseph were not homeless. They had a home in Nazareth. They were forced to travel to Bethlehem because of a bureaucratic census requirement. Unfortunately they got there late and the inns were filled up. The found themselves in a manger not because they were homeless, but because the inane imposition of governmental edict prevented them from remaining in the home they enjoyed.

This is a wonderful example of the absurdity of bureaucratic imposition on our daily lives.

This is the first time I've EVER heard of the Mary being homeless.

Well, you have not been listening.

Am I forced to contend with the restricted scope of your observance?

I'm challenging you assertion that this is has happened.

If you have proof, then I'll admit that I was wrong.

Challenge away.

Google it and you will see.

I accept no requirement to verify my posts to you or anyone else.

After you do, I hope you will have the integrity to admit you are wrong.

http://williamtheimpeached.com/goregasims.htm

At a December 1997 news conference on the homeless, Al Gore said:

"Speaking from my own religious tradition in this Christmas season, 2,000 years ago a homeless woman gave birth to a homeless child in a manger."

Well, Al Gore wasn't mentioned by Finn.....

As for the others, I googled both of them last night before I made my post...and again this morning and I couldn't find anything.

I call bullshit!
