Obama's goal is to keep his number above 59% - gets more delegates that way, and every one counts!

CNN and MSNBC call it for Obama.

Votes counted quicker then you might have thought, apparently!

Gotta watch the distribution of votes, Cyclo. If the Dems drew more to the polls by a significant margin, VA could go blue. Also, important to me, is the geographical distribuitrion of those. If certain counties/districts go Dem, that could change the composition of our state legislature significantly in Nov.
More here then might meet your eye.

OBAMARAMA

This one was easy to call based on the exit data which was already gathered and analyzed before the polls even closed.

Per MSNBC, huge numbers of Republicans cross over to vote as Dems.

I'd imagine Obama-Clinton, at best.

Obama - Somebody-Clinton-gives-the-nod-to, as a second choice.

The other way around would be something proper of the WWF, not the Democratic Party. Wink

The most important thing would be the allocation of House and Senate candidates, when they're not incumbents going for re-election.

Why would a huge number of Repubs do that. Deserting McCain but not wanting Huckabee? Voting for a Dem who they think McCain can beat? A huge number of Repubs did this?

Saw the interview with Gov ??? who stated that moderate Republicans, particularly those in northern VA are supporting Obama outright.

As a total aside. Here in VA Govs can not serve more than one two-year term. I kind of like that notion, particularly because we have a "citizen-legislature" system where folks can't earn enough to make a career out of it.
We end up with a bunch of very bright and ambitious ex-govs. Kaine is a smart dude, as is Mark Warner and Doug Wilder on the Dem side, And Jim Gilmore on the Repub side. I leave out George Allen who was the exception that proves the rule.

There must be some huge precincts that haven't reported in yet. They're up over 50% yet if you add them all together it roughly totals about 500,000 of the 4 million registered active voters have been counted. 349k democrats and 179k republicans.

There sure are a lot of activists in Virginia....

Sadly, or perhaps not, B'fly, the turnout is a small fraction of the eligible/registered voters. Do you have any comparable stats from CA? Pretty grim, I'll bet.

I just looked on the Calif. SOS election results website and it doesn't give the total number of registered voters. I'll look a few more places and post it if I find it.

Found it. Scroll all the say to the bottom of the spreadsheet:

http://vote.ss.ca.gov/Returns/status.htm

15.5 million registered voters
49.4% total turnout
