No breakthrough for Obama among whites like he has in Georgia down in Alabama though:

Obama has 22% of white votes, and 82% of black votes.
Clinton has 72% of white votes, and 16% of black votes.

7% of whites could not bring themselves to vote for either; Edwards, although withdrawn from the race, got 5% (including 7% of white Indies).

Massachusetts is being projected for Clinton. She'll get a lot of ink over that win in the "Kennedy" state.

I've been watching that too, Nimh. I may get to relax and not pay so much nervous attention to the actual results tonight.

Obama takes Delaware according to CNN. They haven't called Alabama for him or Mass for Clinton, though others have.

Talking Points From Clinton for Everyone
Updated 8:35 p.m.
By Anne E. Kornblut
No need to wait for Clinton surrogates to start talking on television after the polls close. The Hillary Clinton campaign is helpfully e-mailing out its talking points. This arrived just before 7:30 p.m.:

1. "We're excited by what we're seeing."
2. "We have 21 states that are still outstanding where we expect to pick up a significant number of new delegates."
3. "To be sure, both campaigns have a long night ahead of them -- but we feel very good about the numbers that we're seeing."
4. "It's very important that people in the states where the polls are still open get out and vote."

And for anyone seeking to spin the Georgia defeat:

1."Unlike the Obama campaign, the Clinton campaign never dedicated significant resources to Georgia."
2. "Sen. Obama spent over $500,000 dollars on ads on television and radio; we never went up on TV."
3. "The Obama campaign has 9 offices in Georgia. The Clinton campaign only has 2."
4. "Sen. Obama has had staff and significant campaign operation across the state for 8 months. Sen. Clinton only deployed staff to the state in the last couple of weeks."
5. "Polls have consistently showed Sen. Obama with wide lead over Sen Clinton. That lead has only widened over time."

And the hits keep coming: The Clinton campaign next sent out its talking points on the races in Tennessee and Oklahoma -- just in case anyone happens to stumble in front of a live mic:

"We're very excited by our strong victories in Oklahoma and Tennessee.

"These are the first two states where both candidates competed fiercely.

"For months, the Obama campaign has been spinning that they have a monopoly on red states; tonight we showed that they don't.

"With these first two victories, Hillary Clinton has demonstrated that she can compete and win in red states.

Some wicked weather at the end of the day in Arkansas, Tennessee.

I thought I saw a shift in Obama's support amongst voters according to age. Obama, of course, had the young (18-30), but he seems in some places to be gaining amongst 30-50 year olds. We will have to dissect the exit polls tomorrow.

Huckabee ruined the game for Romney. He's also way above him in Mo., Ok. and Tn.

It can be safely be said now that John McCain will be the Republican candidate for President of the USA.

In the South, McCain underperforms, Huckabee overperforms

Going on the preliminary exit polls as they are online now, and comparing them with the average numbers for the polling done in the past five days, we see Huckabee clearly outdoing expectations, and McCain not quite living up to them:

Code:
GEORGIA

MCCAIN ROMNEY HUCKABEE

POLLING LAST FEW DAYS 31 30 28

EXIT POLLS NOW 30 31 33

DIFFERENCE -1 +1 +5

MISSOURI

MCCAIN ROMNEY HUCKABEE

POLLING LAST FEW DAYS 34 25 28

EXIT POLLS NOW 33 29 27

DIFFERENCE -1 +4 -1

TENNESSEE

MCCAIN ROMNEY HUCKABEE

POLLING LAST FEW DAYS 33 22 29

EXIT POLLS NOW 29 24 34

DIFFERENCE -4 +2 +5

ALABAMA

MCCAIN ROMNEY HUCKABEE

POLLING LAST FEW DAYS 36 19 34

EXIT POLLS NOW 32 18 43

DIFFERENCE -4 -1 +9

I was banking on Huckabee outperforming expectations in South Carolina, predicted here that he would win - and, zilch. Now I didnt make any predictions, and bang, there he goes! Smile
