I don't suppose anybody knows anything about the Halliday and Hassan study on cohesion in language do they? In particular its limitations? Because i'm struggling a bit. Thanks.

If you Google "Halliday Cohesion" you will find the basics.
If you then Google "Halliday Cohesion Critique" you should find some limitations. One major one seems to be that it is applicable to text but not it seems to discourse.

Hope this helps.
