pierced ear problem?

i just got a second hole pierced in each earlobe, and i'm wondering if i have an infection or if it's too early to tell? i got them pierced wednesday.

my left earlobe is sore to the touch, and a little red.. it doesn't feel swollen, and it doesn't hurt when i pinch AROUND the piercing, but when i turn the earring and push it in and out it hurts and itches a little. the right earlobe seems just fine. i'm wondering if maybe this is just because my left ear hurt more when they pierced it than the right one did, so maybe it's going to be a little more sore? they're both easy to turn and neither one has pus or anything. is this soreness/redness normal?

thanks Smile

Hi pantomime

I remember being advised, when I had my ears pierced some years ago, to keep the pierced areas scrupulously clean to avoid possible infection. I was advised to regularly (gently!) move the new earrings around & to apply a wipe of peroxide (front & back of ears) to act as a cleansing/disinfectant agent. A couple of times a day, at least. I've known other people to use Tea Tree Oil for this purpose.
Infections can be caused by the piercing equipment not being properly sterilized, or lack of adequate cleaning after piercing. Or a combination of the two.

If your problems worsen it might be a good idea to seek some medical attention. At the very least, have a chemist take a look & advise.

Hope that helps!

hey

I've had my ears pierced eleven times and that sounds quite normal,
I would recommend that when you touch it your hands are clean.

for some reason I managed to remove my earrings the next day and still not getting them infected but i wouldn't suggest that.

msolga is right about gently moving them around to clean them.
but...there's no need to worry just yet.

im sure they look great and best of luck that they stay uninfected. Very Happy

You probably are not taking the earrings out yet. When you do, it is a good idea to clean the posts with alcohol. As was suggested, wash the earlobes with peroxide. In addition, smear a little triple antibiotic ointmentaround the piercing. You may have the start of an infection.

I had my ears pierced a number of times when I was young, and invariably, I would get an infection, and pull the earrings out. Then the pierce would close up. When I finally learned to take care of new pirecings by cleaning the area and usung peroxide and antibiotic ointment, I had no problems.
