I thought that our new form teacher was just picking on me as a way to quieten down the class who/which had been quite rowdy.

I think 'which' is the correct word. Am I right?

You are correct. Use "who" for people, "which" for things. Or avoid the issue altogether and use "that".

The class is a thing.

The class which had been quite rowdy.

The members of the class are people.

The members of the class who had been quite rowdy.

Or,

The class that had been quite rowdy.
