what is yellow wine?
thanks
Where did you find this phrase? Do you mean Chinese huáng jiǔ which is made from rice or wheat? "Liquor" is a better word to use than "wine" for this drink.
(Jiu is the Chinese word that refers to all alcoholic beverages. This word has often been mistranslated into English as "wine", although the meaning is closer to "alcoholic beverage" or "liquor.")
Chinese fermented beverages, called huang jiu ("yellow liquor"), are brewed directly from grains such as rice or wheat. Such liquors contain less than 20% alcohol, due to the inhibition of ethanol fermentation at this concentration. These wine are traditionally pasteurized, aged, and filtered before their final bottling for sale to consumers.
not chinese huangjiu
i read this phrase yellow wine in the autobiography by Harry Mark Petrakis(1923- ) who has written novles and short stories about GreekAmerican.yellow wine was sold in a Greek grocery when he was a child.
It seems, then, that the phrase "yellow wine", in the context you quoted, is a description rather than a name. It simply means "wine that is yellow in colour". Many so-called "white" grape wines are, of course, not at all neutral in tint. Many Greek white wines are naturally yellowish in colour, and furthermore there is a specifically Greek drink called "retsina" which is white wine which has had pine resin added. This is very yellow in colour also.
I expect that through the eyes of a child, these various wines would be just "yellow wine".
yes,I see,thank you contrex
