Sorry, the City of New York and the American Red Cross call it a Go Bag.
Take this quiz:
Ready New York
Joe(Are you ready?)Nation
I have about 20 cases of duct tape ready to go.
(what do I do with all this duct tape?)
Maybe I can trade it for food.
Why would I wish to be in NYC? ID wanna get OUT of NYC,
Izzat why you do all this running?
I have many questions and no answers
except for all this duct tape
If there were I problem in NY, I would go back to Florida. Here I have my hurricane preparedness gear!
A "Go Bag"? I've never heard of such a thing. This must be something that NooYawkers need that isn't necessary in Oklahoma.
I have my credit cards and my cell phone. That's always been enough to cover any emergencies that happen here.
What sort of emergency gear are NYers told to carry, anyway? (A gun? A grappling hook? A copy of the NYTimes?

)
1. cut a hole in the bag
2. put your junk in that bag
3. make her open the bag
and that is how you do it!
a Zaggats guide?
I had a friend from NYC who gloried in his almost helpless state of incompetence when it came to real world situations.
Think about the rest of our great country as composed of people who know how to
1tie knots
2cook grubs and roots
3know how to make fire with a couple of sticks
3build a shelter
4count correctly
5call a professional (*EEP)

Back in Los Angeles it was strongly suggested that we have earthquake preparedness kits in our cars. I wasn't very good at that (uh, bottled water, some old sneakers, flashlight, items I tended to keep in the car anyway) - and a kit outside our house... a large trash container was suggested so one could include a blanket. I did at one point store a bunch of plastic bottles of water in a big plastic container - yaaak, to drink that after some sun aging, pfui. I eventually threw those out and started whistling. And yes, I've been in many earthquakes. Whistle, whistle.
We've just been informed in another thread that the world will end eminently. There would be no point in going to all that trouble.
They say "if you can make it in NYC you can make it anywhere" but I say "if you can make it anywhere why are you in NYC?"
Correction: We have been informed that the end of the world is imminent.

But if it were eminent, would that be a bang or a whimper?
I would suppose that that would imply a bang. I can't imagine a whimper which would qualify as eminent, unless it were the very quintessence of whimpering.
The end of the world? Who'll need a Go bag then?
When I was kid in Chicago, tornado warnings would put me in a tizzy and I'd pack a bag with all of my worldly possessions, mainly my sketch pads and colored pencil set and favorite books. I'd set it by my bedroom door, ready to go. Fortunately, I never had to 'grab and run'.
I'm not a Morman, but I do try to keep at least a week's worth of food in the pantry.
We have emergency lighting and lots of blankets.
I figure that the neighbors will be round in 24 hours, my son and d-i-l would be down from New England in 36 hours and Homeland Security should show up in a week or so.
set, where is anyone saying that the end of the world is imminent??
Shall I return this pile of library books then?
Im gonna go rabbit hunting and screw the limit.
I've had earthquake preparedness kits since the 1989 Loma Prieta quake. It was one of the things I had to do for myself to help me cope with the quake aftermath.
I have a small emergency survival kit in the trunk of my car and a larger one in a closet in my apartment.
Both contain emergency rations, water, a first aid kit, a flash light and transister radio, a sweater and a blanket. The one in my closet also has photos and important documents, extra set of car keys, address book, disposable camera, extra socks and one of those disposable beach barbecue grills with charcoal, a can opener and some canned goods, a hammer, wrench and paper air filter masks.
I do not have any kind of bag packed, nor plan designed. I do have canned food.

I took the quiz -- did badly -- but still don't know what's in a "Go Bag".
I thought it had something to do with a colostomy.

No - that's a "don't go" bag!
Earlier this year the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, suggested the same thing:
Clover's Go Bag!
It was the source of much hilarity!
One of the suggestions was to carry your cat in a pillow case! I mentioned this to the management at left, and he said it wouldn't be worth my life to even think about it!

Let alone try it!
