Strobes! Yes!

Bear has par cans, strobes, rainlights, truss taken care of. No gobo's or intellegent lighting since that wasn't around yet. He'll know what to play obviously.

So, I'm ending up with more of the Disco Fever/ Saturday Night Live / Platforms/ Glitter/ Travolta side of the 70's.

Had originally thought earlier 70's until I got to trying to figure out what people danced to. Musta all been lip lock dancin and van shakin' back then. Very Happy

I mean, how did anyone party to "Leavin' on a Jet Plane?"

Here's a couple of websites to help with the inspiration:

http://www.partypantry.com/themes/discodecor.html

http://www.stumpsprom.com/catalog.cfm?cat=35208&StumpsTrackID=SPR

Balloons and streamers -- attach streamers from center of ceiling to each corner of the room. Use two colors (silver and gold recommended) and twist streamers for effect. Hang lots of Disco balls (foam balls coated with reflective ribbon or glitter) and electric disco lights. Include some ceiling-to-floor streamers and some disco strobe lights. Disco scene posters such as from the old BeeGees type movies can decorate the walls.

Add plates or napkins in solid silver or gold if desired. Scatter some disco confetti on the table. For the centerpiece use a Disco ball on a base or fiber optic light.

Leisure suits and and a game of Twister should finish it off.

For food, Fondue was all the rage during the 70's. Get a fondue set and serve a cheese fondue or melted chocolate for the guests.

For entertainment: Remind your guests of the "Disco Duck," the hustle, and disco line dances and hold a dance contest. Hold a Tony Manero (Saturday Night Fever) "strutting" contest for those who don't dance.

Have you had your party yet, squiney? I've been incommunicado, which is near Preston, so I've been out of the loop for a while.

If you have had it, I hope it all went well. Very Happy

No, it will be a New Years Eve party.

Working on the details now that the grand scheme is formulated.

People are getting excited and coming in for tickets, so hopefully we'll have a good turnout.

Everyone I ask about 70's food says "Pigs in a blanket" as the first or second thing they list. Very Happy

We call them sausage rolls over here. The greasier the better!

If it's a New Year's eve party, don't forget to do the "Oakie Cokie" immediately after Auld Lang Syne (sp?).

I assume you mean the Hokey Pokey.... this is not a tradition I was aware of and I've been dj ing a long time.... however there are few more satisfying things than getting a bunch of drunken adults to look and act like little children on the dance floor.

My favorite is to get the men to lie on the floor on their stomachs and get the women to stand on their backs and then play wipe out and have the women surf them. That's always a sight. Laughing

The party was a huge success. We had a puker, a fall down drunk on the dance floor with no panties on, a partier that left barefooted, a couple of younger gals dancing together that had all of the men drop jawwed, fire, some party crashers, and ALL of the pigs in a blanket were eaten.

Photo's and details tomorrow. For now, I have to get some much needed sleep.

Oh, did I mention a fire? Embarrassed

Sounds pretty exciting! Remind me to call you next time I have a party.

(I assume the fire was put out without injuries?)

The party was a HUGE success...squinney and I worked on it literally Friday through Mon and then the event itself Monday night, 6 hours on teardown and clean up yesterday and we'll do another 8 to 10 hour day today getiing it cleaned up so the carpet cleaners come in. we had a little help from Seth cub and her sister, but we did 90% of the work ourselves, and with the fall we took we both have bruises and lumps to show for it. On top of that, the company I rented the trussing from sent us the wrong corner connectors and we ended up haqving to put half of the box truss up with high tensile cable tie and safety cable. NOT OSHA recommended. It held just fine, but it was difficult to do, and will be equally a pain in the ass to take down today. Always a problem behind te scenes.... it's a rule. Laughing

At the end of the night some young thugs crashed the party and John, (squinney's sisters fiance) and I had to escort them outside and run them off, so that was fun.

There are some GREAT pictures and I'm sure squinney will post a few of the best, and I will put some up on my website and myspace page.

Some great events planned for 2008 as well, although residents have said it will be impossible to top this one. They don't know.

Squinney and I may be separated, but when it comes to this we are a well oiled machine. NO ONE can create or implement a better event.

All in all this event was an 11 out of 10.

Hey, was that John Travolta in one of those pictures?!?!?

Nicely done. Tender pats on the back to Squinney and Bear.

I like the white wall covering idea. That's a great way to give a room a different atmosphere without having to gather up a lot of wall decorations.

You, Setanta and the Hamburgers have an open invitation.

Next one is Mardi Gras Feb. 9th, then Casino Night for Make-A-Wish on March 1st. I'll see you there?
