1. I'm late for work.

2. I'm going to be late for work.

#1 means I am late for work.

#2 means I may be late for work.

Am I correct?

I think #2 means you will be late for work as opposed to "may be".

<be> states a 100% certainty, YL, so it can't be the same as "I may be late for work".

"I'm late for work" means at this moment, I'm already late.

"I'm going to be late for work" means that by the time I arrive at work, I will be late.
