I have had the depo shot twice now, i got the shot originally to get rid of my period. the second time i got the shot, i gone a week and started having a light period. It's almost three months now and i've been on my period the whole three months except for that one week??? what do i do??? have other women had the same experience this is driving me crazy. I've gained about ten pounds of weight, and i'm moody and depressed all the time. And this is not helping my financial situation, i'm going through tampons like they were going out of style: Crying or Very sad
if anybody has any help or info please either respond to this. or e-mail me at [email protected]
please

Perhaps the best thing would be to see your doctor about this, don't you think? This is REAL medical problem that would be best diagnosed by a professional, not by a forum of laymen.

thanks for your opinion, i've actually heard of other women having the same issue. apparently the depo shot is hormone based so it can really screw things up. thanks anyway Very Happy

So what DOES your Doctor say?

My opinion here is irrelevant and I'm NOT denying that people have problems with depovera shots. I'm honestly wondering what a medical person has advised you about all this?

Hi stindall and welcome to A2k.

I've never had depo, but in a similar situation a couple of years ago my doc never gave me a reason for a three month period. Just said sometimes that happens... body trying to adjust / balance or something. Quite frustrating to not know why.

I'm sure you'll ask your doctor about it when you go in for the next shot. He or she may change course of treatment if two previous shots did not solve the problem. Until then, hopefully someone will stop by that has had Depo shots to let you know if they had complications.

thank you ragman
no i value your opinion, the doc said that yes my periods would be irregular, but i never expected this irregular Sad the due date for my next shot is on the 24th, even tho it will be three months on the 13th. i don't plan on getting the shot again it's been way to much of a pain for me to even think of it a third time Smile thanks much!!!

If you look in the medical news and health forum here (click on the blue letters saying Medical News and Health Forum), we have a major long running thread on depo and probably several other threads about it.. You may have to hunt for it, but since it is popular, you'll likely run across it if you look. Ragman's point of view is right, in that you should check with you m.d.

I haven't read the whole long Depo thread, but I gather there are various pros and many cons, and you might be interested in it.

yippee!!!
thanx ragman for your suggestions, and everyone that replied Smile um, i talked to my nurse practitioner today, and he said that if i go get the birth control pills and take one a day, my period should be gone within two days to a week. i'm soo excited.
he said that its common for women to go through this problem with the depo. he said that it weakens the uterus lining. he said that the uterus lining will be strengthened by the pills. thanks all Very Happy

Ialso have had the depo shot twice, once i had it for 7 years and now my second time around almost a year.It is kind of fustrating at first but as
your body adjust to the new med. in your system it should work as expected.i have no periods at all.some very light spotting but thats about it.It does makes you moody but once you get used to it you will understand it better.
