LOL, betting against your team?
Well, it'll cheer me up if they get relegated if I can collect a 'nice little earner' from the bookies!
The most annoying part is that they are genuinely better than their position indicates. They have an experienced manager & a whole bunch of internationals, although some are possibly entering the twilight of their careers. Oh well. I can probably get 10-1 on the drop, so maybe worth a tenner...!
Second to Arsenal by a point. Won 4, lost 1, scored 9, conceded 2. They'll probably win the league again. They seem to have a habit of slow starts, but this is one of their best starts for a few years. I'd really like someone else to win though for a change!
It's odd how they win even when they change their lineup.
Who's starting for them now?
As you can tell, since leaving Brazil I am not up to date with footy.
I'm not sure exactly who starts for them now. Perhaps their website
www.mufc.co.uk can enlighten you. The key to their sucess is probably the one person who's been at every match for the last 10 years or so, but never plays - Sir Alex Ferguson. Once he retires they'll have a really hard job replacing him. Coincidently Middlesbrough's manager Steve McLaren was assistant manager at Man U for years before he went to the Boro. Seems he didn't learn much!
Yeah, I've long been a fan of Alex. A pity I didn't catch them at the world club championship, they played out of Rio and i was in Sao Paulo.
I got to see Real though, 'twas fun.
G'night
My daughters team won their match on Sunday! Hurrah! She played last year on a tournament team that never won (they tied a couple times). Half of that team now plays on this new team, so they were all very excited.

Big smiles all around!
What position does she play? Do you think that football (soccer) in the States is seen more as a 'girl's game' because it is supposed to be fairly non-contact?
She prefers left forward/striker. She's a lefty and that gives her an immediate advantage. I think soccer is more popular with girls here in the U.S. because the boys all get caught up in the higher profile sports of football, basketball, and baseball.
Soccer is gaining ground, however, it doesn't help when the women's pro league goes under (yesterday). What a bummer.
First round of the Champions League last night, and all three British teams won, which is good. The other 2 play later. I can't wait to see if Man U play Real Madrid later on in the competition, especially if it's at Old Trafford. There will be 60,000 angry Mancunians screaming for Beckham's blood! It'll certainly be a good match, even for a neutral.
Left-footers seem to cause trouble for defenders so that's definately in her favour. It is a shame about the US women's pro league though. There is a women's league here, but I think it is either amateur or semi-pro. They have started putting the results in the papers recently, and v.brief highlights of the womens FA cup were shown on TV, which is good news. I think the problem with the women's game here is the opposite of yours - there is already a very well-established pro men's game, so alot of people don't want to watch women play. Which is wrong, I think.
Well, the women's World Cup is coming up, from the good old USA (it was supposed to be in China but was moved due to SARS). If the warmups are any indication, the U.S. Women's team has a good chance at repeating their title.
They beat Costa Rica 5-0 a couple weeks ago and never allowed a shot on goal. Total domination.
Blimey! Middlesbrough won! All they need for league domination now is to win the remaining 30-odd games and the title is theirs!
Man U & Arsenal was the scrap it always is, but Ruud Van Nistleroy missed a penalty in the last minutes of extra time, so it ended 0-0. Ha! Ha!
I'm hoping they do at least one or two games in HD. That would be awesome.
DID ANYONE WATCH SUNDAY'S WUSA GAME?
Did anyone watch Sunday's WUSA game? The women have the set pieces down pat. Well done! Tough one coming tomorrow against Norway. On cable AND a Spanish channel - which we will watch.
Would that there were more coverage by the media of the various MLS teams and the Men's National Team - plus the Internationals. Thankfully, there's the Internet! Maybe some day . . . [/color]
It's been pretty quiet in here for a while, so I'll share with you all the good news that Middlesbrough are no longer at the bottom of the table, having soared to 12th place!
England lost a friendly against the mighty Denmark yesterday 3-2. They were leading 2-1 at one point as well. I know that the friendlies are supposed to be for the managers to try new tactics or trial newer players, but I thought the idea was still to win them! No offence meant to Denmark, btw, as they played well and deserved the win. Scotland's 1-0 win against the Dutch in the Euro '04 qualifier has put them lot in a good mood (although they won't be as happy when they get hammered in Amsterdam on the return leg). Oh, and Wales managed a 0-0 draw against Russia in Moscow. Which is pretty good, considering that the population of Russia is about 100 times that of Wales.
