I guess that the A2K membership is based too much on the wrong side of the Pond to generate enough football debate to sustain this thread for much longer. Please feel free everyone to post randomly if you wish!

Mind you, Graham, that there are other countries on the wrong side of the Pond, besides the US. It often happens that one of those countries eliminates England at the football World Cup.

Fbaezer - Touche to you as well mate!

I watched some of Mexico's games in the World Cup and definately think they'd beat England on their day. Mind you, even the Scots can beat us. And the Koreans, Lithuanians, Serb-Croats etc etc.

OAK - maybe when the Boro beat Man Utd it'll heat up a bit!

Jeez, Graham

Lots of countries can beat England in the round ball game! Waving from one who did! And we can't even get a berth in the World Cup!

I recall, in 1997, I flew into London on the day of the FA Cup final. Such hysteria, even in the plane from Ireland.

I reached my friends' place, and their neighbour followed me in, in tears - he was a Chelsea supporter, and Chelsea had won. I remember particularly the coach had a fantastic name: Ruud Gullit!

We had to watch the whole match through again, and make intelligent comments, even me - who has never seen a soccer match before or since! Rolling Eyes

Memorable day, though! Razz

Even Corinthians could beat England. But cheer up Brits, sing a rousing rendition of 'Beasts of England' and give it some gusto.

My heart is with my daughter's CYSA team, the Maniacs. You'd never know how much fun it is to watch 22 talented 11-year old girls kick the crap out of each other.

It they are kicking each other then they are missing the ball too much. We used to call that 'Jungle ball'.

There are two main soccer organizations in CA. AYSO is the fall league, everybody plays. CYSA uses often paid coaches, requires tryouts, and you have to keep up your end of the bargain or you can lose your spot on the team, with no financial refund.

Yeah, I was goan say that. But I didn't want to help characterize the sport as one for girls.

There is just so much pressure from peers and parents for boys to play the traditional sports that soccer takes a backseat. Unfortunate.

Not always true though. Take Landon Donovan for example. He's a world class player from California.

Landon Donovan is no world class player. He played in Brazil and never got off the bench. He is mediocre at best.

But I agree, American Footbal not having a female equivalent in High School is what makes soccer a girl's sport in the US.
