What does K in K-12 schools stand for, please?

Year 1 to Year 12 -- primary to secondary education?

Then does K-12 refer to primary to secondary education which lasts 12 years?

Yes. It's the standard public education in the U.S. -- and it's thirteen years, from age 5 to age 18 (usually).

So, can I take it to mean Kindergarten plus 12 years of primary and secondary education?
