Latest figures:
Senate thinks it can get the Children's Health Bill through. We won't need to raise taxes to pay for it.... except a "mere" 61 cents tax on smokes!
OK! Then, if the Bill is expected to cost $35 Billion and there are 300 Million folks in the US.... to generate $35 Billion in revenue, every man, woman and child in the US would have to purchase 190 or so packs of smokes a year. HUH?
Either my math is wrong (it's been known to happen) or someone in Congress (perhaps a LOT of someones) have been smoking more than just tobacco.
Next, we are told that 4 million children will be insured under this Bill. Let's assume that the figure is 5 million, just for the sake of argument. That works out to $7,000 per child or $583 a month. I have my entire family insured for less than that a month. Apparently Congress didn't shop around for the lowest bidder on this one.
No wonder why we can't get a balanced budget.
