Those are old city houses on tiny lots in need of complete plumbing and electrical overhauls (at least the ones you listed). I just spent a year and a half looking at homes to purchase and learned a lot of hard lessons about reading real estate ads.

And no, for $250K you would only get a NEW house of about 2000sf fully finished. That is tiny for a 4/3. Puny rooms with little room to turn around. Notice also the lot sizes - super tiny some even by CA standards.

On my former street in California, you could buy a unupdated 1950's tract home on 1/8 acre for about $850K and that would have been considered a bargain.

People who think those that make $40K or more a year are rich are fools. You aren't rich until you don't really have to work any longer, but you do anyway because you enjoy making other people's lives miserable.

So then we should take Malkin's statements in the same vein you took the real estate ads. Until you have actually inspected the house you don't know what shape it is in or what its value really is.

Well, it varies by location of course. Real estate is all about location.

Oh yeah, they own a house valued at $260,000 and commercial property worth $160,000. I really feel bad for them.

I feel bad for you. You don't seem to understand the first thing about money.

A house valued at $260,000 does not equate to the owner having access to $260,000 nor does it even equate to the owner having a net worth of $260,000. Do you know what a mortgage is? Do you understand that a person's net worth is their assets minus their debts? It seems Michele Malkin doesn't know the first thing about buying a house or any other property in the real world. Do you really want to be there with her? A $260,000 home in the city where those people live is worth less than the median home price. This is NOT some mansion. It is a working class home.

They first bought the house for $55,000 with a mortgage. They then were forced to do major renovations after the accident. Do you know what a home equity loan is? You know TTH maybe you should stop and think about the reality of how people live before you attack them because you feel the .000002 cents of your money that goes to help them is too much. By the way. They just announced yesterday that the war in Iraq is going to cost every person in the US $8000. I can think of a lot of things I would have rather spent that money on.
You feel bad for me, well don't Laughing
I didn't say anything about net worth, assets or mortgage.

This topic has been done to death in another thread the first time it came around. We will find nothing new in this thread.

It's a perfect ploy....if you are against it... "YOU HATE CHILDREN!"

Veto it, and it will come around again..... and again....... and again. Maybe the Republicans will finally let it go through just so the Congress can get on with some other business. Laughing

Such games.... It's GOTTA be the election season. Shocked

I know you didn't. That is why I explained it for you. Your "I feel bad for them" comment showed you don't understand how owning property works.

Wow! $8,000 per person as cost of the war. Yeah, there are a lot of things I would rather have that money spent on.... how, about my family's needs?

Then your family can spend it's 8k on whatever.... and on it goes.

Pretty soon you have a "rockin' and rollin'" economy!!!!!

Latest figures:

Senate thinks it can get the Children's Health Bill through. We won't need to raise taxes to pay for it.... except a "mere" 61 cents tax on smokes!

OK! Then, if the Bill is expected to cost $35 Billion and there are 300 Million folks in the US.... to generate $35 Billion in revenue, every man, woman and child in the US would have to purchase 190 or so packs of smokes a year. HUH? Embarrassed

Either my math is wrong (it's been known to happen) or someone in Congress (perhaps a LOT of someones) have been smoking more than just tobacco. Laughing

Next, we are told that 4 million children will be insured under this Bill. Let's assume that the figure is 5 million, just for the sake of argument. That works out to $7,000 per child or $583 a month. I have my entire family insured for less than that a month. Apparently Congress didn't shop around for the lowest bidder on this one.

No wonder why we can't get a balanced budget.

I thnk you have wrong figures there Halfback....

$35 billion over the next 5 years.

The cigarette tax is intended to pay for the increase in coverage not the entire cost since much of the cost was already in Bush's budget.
