identities/identifications

You can never be sure about people's true identities/identifications when you meet them online.

I think 'identities' should be used? Am I right?

Many thanks.

Yes. When everybody uses a screen name, I'm not sure, offhand, how "identifications" could be used (though Contrex can probably think of a convoluted example in which it could work).

Ah, you nipped in just ahead of me, c, while I was pondering my reply. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that you didn't come up with a counterexample.

Perhaps a new record, three replies within four minutes of posting the topic.

It seems we both scan the "unanswered posts" for Yoong Liat's name. That makes us rivals, perhaps, in your eyes, and motivates you to pick holes in my answers? (Now who's off topic?) (Maybe we both need lives?)

(No, I just look at the new posts without a particular aim in mind, only whatever looks like it might be interesting).

(Nor am I trying to rival or compete with you. We both, apparently, share a similar interest, but sometimes different opinions on it--not sure how closely the decriptivist/prescriptivist difference applies, but it does seem to have some bearing. In any case, I respect your opinion, while sometimes disagreeing with it (and sometimes agreeing, as well). When we disagree, there has, I guess, been a bit of needling. If it's bothered you, I apologize. Maybe too much time spent on the politics threads, which are not as genteel as whatever catgory Yoongs's posts fit into. And, yes, you may be right, we should get lives).

username, your posts often make me think and I'd hate it for us to fall out, so i apologise if I have been snippy with you lately. But if we have just been indulging in acceptable levels of banter, let's carry on the show!

Ahem.

He knows he has to wait for me to get a balanced viewpoint.

Eh....what was the question?

Thanks, Contrex and Username.

I would like to apologise for causing both of you to argue over my query.

All the best.
