correct verbs

a) He was at home alone. His parents went/had gone out to/for a wedding dinner.

(b) He was alone in the house. His parents attended a wedding dinner.

I think for (a), it should be ' ... had gone out to a wedding dinner.

I think (b) is correct.

Thanks.

This is OK.

He was at home alone. His parents had gone out to a wedding dinner.

This is very bad. "Attended is the wrong tense.

Quote:
(b) He was alone in the house. His parents attended a wedding dinner.

Rewrite:

He was alone in the house. His parents were attending a wedding dinner.

Better:-

He was alone in the house; his parents were attending a wedding dinner.

What is wrong with sentence b?
Edit: Just the second sentence.

If you mean "His parents attended a wedding dinner", there's nothing "wrong" with it, it just does not go with the first one, "He was alone in the house", which seems to be the matter Yoong Liat was enquiring about.
