Here's the link to the interview with one of my favorite authors and a man I take seriously (of course he does sound a bit like another cranky octogenerian):

The evangelistic rabble were kept at bay by those damned intellectuals, our forefathers, and now that the religious zealots have voices in the highest places of the government, Vonnegut has the intellect to be able to call it as he sees it. Setanta has only drawn out one example of their writings and actions that belie the notion of the church having anything to do with the state.

I agree with both Mandela and Vonnegut (except for Mandala's statement about racial discrimination.) And of course Vonnegut says it best. But I must say that Mandela may be right about the racial attitute of GW......I think there is something to it, actually.

Cmon---this is like me giving you a bunch of crap written by Bill O'Reilly----would you listen to it? Biased drivel makes you feel better---Please don't use it to try and convince the opposition of the relevance of your position.

It is almost always a mistake to create a racial where none has existed. Nelson Mandela has neither hurt President Bush nor helped himself.

I don't post with the perception that you or anyone else is going to be 'convinced' by the two opinions I linked, percy; this is after all a forum for discussion and opinions, not persuasion. Nelson Mandela and Kurt Vonnegut haven't weighed in previously, as opposed to someone like O'Reilly.

What views do....say....Arnold Schwartzeneggar, Tom Selleck, or Charlton Heston have on the topic? They'd be predictable but I'd still be interested in hearing them if they're out there.

(Don't be offended if we don't always agree.... Smile )

Yes and we should congratulate those who stick it out. Without opposing views, I never learn anything, except how to agree.

Everyone here has opinions which means they are in ample supply---why clutter up the board with more opinions from people not qualified to give anything BUT their opinions. I'm here to learn---how am I going to learn if you don't give me some facts----not opinions.

dys, Your most recent post has many truisms to it. People have a tendency to follow the leader in most situations. That's been proven by history, and I fear our future will be the same. c.i.

Just a thought, but perhaps Arnold, Tom, and Charlton recognize that they are just entertainers and as such aren't people anyone should be looking to for guidance on issues of war and foreign policy.

Or maybe nobody is asking them.

Would that other celebrities had a more humble view of their own opinions.
