This comment may not fit exactly but----from everything I have read there is very little correlation between IQ and common sense.
Since I have never been in the Oval office I have never seen the little card table but from two gentlemen and who have spent many hours there and have recently written best sellers about the president(Bob Woodward and David Frum) Mr. Hammonds allegations are pure myth.
And BTW---I'll take common sense over IQ every time when it comes to very important decisions.
common sense tells us that the sun comes up in the morning and sets in the evening-intelligence tells us that the earth rotates.
perception: "from everything I have read there is very little correlation between IQ and common sense."
i noticed that.
LW, Setanta and Perception, (making no comment about Blatham's input)you guys are not going to throw me off just because of my feminine persuasion. I'm neither nursing at the moment (although it's a funny and very pleasant thought, LW), nor am I particularly beautiful (to my enemies) And I'm not at all offended by perception's comment. Any more than I am the rest of you. After all, who chose my avatar? I did. So compliments are appreciated, even if they are back handed because I have left myself open, so to speak.
In the face of none of us knowing what-the-hey about what is or is not going on in Iraq, it seems to me that it boils down, at least to some degree, to which source we consider and which we distrust, and our own personal convictions. I can only imagine what war would be like in my own backyard, but I know it must be horrifying and soul damaging. So those are my personal values (think about the consequences for the people involved before taking action.) Since I don't trust GW and his cronies (Perception, GW is a right wing Christian, not just playing up to them, ask me how I know privately)........since I don't trust them, I don't believe them. I'm believing that at least some of what they're claiming is propaganda for the purpose of achieving their own personal agendas.
I agree Perception, it does instill confidence in a leader if he can be decisive and if he has moral integrity. But what appears to you to be religious integrity, to me looks like self righteous zeal. And decisiveness as bullheaded determination. OK, that may be resorting to hyperbole.............well, it's hard for me to be objectivereally, as it is for us all. I hate the tactics of the religious right. And I believe it is these Jerry Falwell/John Ashcroff tactics that Bush is employing. (The "the end justifies the means" type of reasoning.) Which rule of law should we be respecting here? Our rule alone? Only our rule is scared? Where's old what's his name when we need him? (prosecutor in the Clinton ridiculousness) If we're going to break the law, which I believe is sometimes necessary, we should be damn sure we know why. And I'm not convinced. Not yet, anyway.
Sorry, I went off to edit and got caught in the etherware.
Give'm hell Lola - BTW, if we went to war today with only what we know, it's an immoral war. If we go to war today and Bush claims false reasons (ie, there is positive WoMD, there is positive 9/11 connection) - it's a criminal war!
dyslexia, why is it when I close my eyes - he doesn't go away, RATS!!!
Lola, so you're the one whose been slowing the entire Internet down.
It's not me, I promise..........or at least, I hope it's not me. It seems to be a2k alone though.
Carter took the Presidency when the image of the office was damaged, here in the U.S. as well as internationally. What we needed to repair that image was an old actor with dyed hair who had left a state government in disrepair to climb the final plateau of his ambitions.
Lola
Great post Lola----even if I don't perzactly agree with you. I believe there was a heck of a lot more religious zeal and self righteous fervor back around the time our constitution was created than there is now. The integrity and moral courage of those men was tested and not found wanting but no one accused them of having dark and sinister motives. Admittedly I do take note when you as a phsychoanalyst make such a charge against the Pres---do you really have professional evidence to base your allegation on?
I do believe the comment by LW about the nursing shark was aimed at me(considered the sourse)---I may be wrong.
I jest with you Lola - keep up the good work!
Yeah---the same one who lifted the cloud of nuclear extinction from the shoulders of our children and grandchildren.
Perception.......whether directed at you or me, it's a nice thought, and thank you, LW, for it.
No, I don't have professional knowledge about (are you talking about GW's religious affiliations?) I have some personal knowledge. But that's just anecdotal.
I'm glad somebody mentioned the slowness----could it be that this thread is way too long?
That happened on another forum???????
You computer Gurus should know easily
perception: "Yeah---the same one who lifted the cloud of nuclear extinction from the shoulders of our children and grandchildren"
hyperbole: A figure of speech in which exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect
The server has been slow yesterday and today. The length of the discussion is not the problem unless you have set your preferences to something like 200 responses per page.
You should really get outside of politics from time to time, perception.
