Since Bush and Putin have agreed to work toward a solution on Iraq, cards seem to be reshuffled.

Interesting that Bush phoned Putin - one day after President Putin issued his first public comments on the latest U.S.-backed draft U.N. resolution, which he dismissed as a "bad solution" and at the very time, when Schröder was in Moscow.

Kara thanks for your recent comments

We heard your cheers loud and clear!

As for Blatham and the Baroness....they'll be fine. One will soon get used to the others coarse turn of phrase and unnatural affinity for saplings, and Blatham will be ok too.

The ambassadors of Chile and Mexico at the UN said today that they are working jointly in the Security Council and do not want another resolution until a "point of agreement" in the confronted positions about Iraq is found

"As long as we are not able to find a point of agreement that can reconcile positions, we are against hastening a resolution in one sense or the other", said Chilean ambassador, Gabriel Valdés.

"Inspection must continue, because it is a peaceful way to achieve Iraq's dissarmament. We believe Iraq's dissarmament is the main objective, and we are working on that like with the Chilean delegation", said Mexican ambassador, Adolfo Aguilar Zinser.

Valdés accused that the five permanent members of the UN Security Council put pressure on the rest (elected) members, without making an effort to compromise.

I doubt there will be the numbers for a majority. And even if there was, the French won't cave in, and they have a veto.

It is common action at the UN for countries to get up and say the way they actually believe before being bullied into voting the way some, to be unnamed, tyrant makes them vote

But of course.

The UN seems, today, to be giving indications, yet again, of being incapable of getting its act together.

The weather is getting warmer. Time to go.

Sumac, before I prepare to jump all over you with both of my left feet, could you explain what you mean? I may be misunderstanding you...

Tartarin,
From what I have heard and read today, everybody, but everybody, with any kind of vote or influence on the Security Council, are arguing with one another and can't agree about anything. Decisions by committee are difficult and slow enough. We don't have the luxury of that right now. That is what I meant.

Oh, okay, Sumac! When you wrote "getting their act together," I thought you meant they were incompetent, as in some dang bureaucracy.

Wrangling and negotiating is of course what they're supposed to be doing! Are we in a hurry? Are negotiations to avoid war a luxury?
