The following is lifted from Kevin Drum at Washington Monthly, but I added some extra links.
Over at Comments From Left Field, they're holding a fundraiser in honor of Sgt. Yance Gray and Sgt. Omar Mora, two of the seven soldiers who wrote a recent op-ed about the war in the New York Times. Gray and Mora were killed in a vehicle accident while on patrol in Baghdad two weeks ago.
The money raised from the fund drive is going to Fisher House, a charity that builds houses near military medical facilities. Loved ones of those who have been injured in the line of duty can stay free of charge while their service member undergoes necessary treatment.
So far over $2,000 has been raised, and the organizers are trying to raise a total of $10,000. More details here. You can make donations here.
Well written opinion article. Thanks for the thread.
I think it's incredibly sad that two of the authors died, so soon after bravely sounding the warning themselves. Bitterly tragic.
But of course every time one of the soldiers now in Iraq dies it is incredibly sad and tragic. Thats why I was touched by this fundraising drive, because it will benefit any military family, no matter what their view on the war. It sounds like a really good cause.
Both sides in the US political debate say "support the troops". Here's a practical way in which to do so. I hope this thread will yield some donations!
That's a seriously good article....and their deaths are so sad.
I also hope the project is very successful.
Yes, indeed. Let's hope that plenty of A2Kers, left or right, click that link.
59 views, that's good.. hello all you good folks?
A third one from that group has irreparable brain damage, IIRC.
