Middle = the midway of the process of developing PCs and phones?
Context:
(Bill Gates:) Now, the size of the hardware also makes a very big difference. We continue to reduce the number of components, reduce the size, and so we're getting even some new form factors. You can think about, where do PCs stop if you take smaller and smaller PCs, and how far up do phones go, and is there a gap there in the middle?
Between the two. ie between the small PCs and big phones.
Hmm... thanks.
But even a primary scholar knows there is a great gap between PC and phone(including big phone)... Why did the smart Gates talk this?
GAtes is saying that the physical size of PCs is decreasing and the physical size of mobile phones is increasing to cope with demand for more abilities and services such as internet access.
He questions whether there is a place for a product between the two. Perhaps something like a very small laptop. he queries not so much whether a product could be built but rather if there is a market for a product between the home pc and the mobile phone.
In a way the Ipod phone is targeted at this "gap"
