A casual acquaintance has given me crassula pubescens ssp radicans.

What should I do?

I'm worried that it will spread.

Any advice?

This plant, common name Jersey Pigmyweed, like all crassulae, does not tolerate extremes of heat and cold well, so I should not worry too much, unless you live somewhere with a climate similar to southern Africa. Just keep an eye on it.

It gives a spectacular ground cover with small green leaves turning flame red in winter when grown in full sun. Height to 20cm. Spherical clusters of white flowers on tall stems in winter.

Crassula is a large genus of plants containing many species, including the popular Jade Plant, Crassula ovata. They are native to many parts of the globe, but cultivated varieties are almost exclusively from the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Crassulae are usually propagated by stem or leaf cuttings. Most cultivated forms will tolerate some small degree of frost, but extremes of cold or heat will cause them to lose foliage and die.

However, due to the way your post was worded, I wonder if it was a joke? (Like you thought it was an STD)

I thoroughly enjoy your informative posts contrex although I'm overly fond of mine.

Speaking of jokes did you hear the one about the subjunctive was in the if clause?

i thought you might be just about the only person here that would notice that the subjunctive 'was' in your 'if' clause theoretically requires 'were' but that 'was' is commonly accepted. in other words it was a joke especially for you as a thank you

Oh OK I'm with you now! I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that is not a subjunctive "was", (whatever that is!) it is the simple past tense of the verb "to be".

I presume that English is not your first language? (Or perhaps that you are pulling my chain. On past performance, this seems a distinct possibility.)

A couple of examples should make this clear

1. Simple past

If your question was about a plant, I wouldn't have known.

2. Present subjunctive

If your question were phrased differently, it would be clearer.
