If the person to whom you are giving some gift likes wine then a wine bottle would be the best gift I guess.

A chocolate or candy bouquet looks lovely and can be shared. A little fun and showy for the employee. They can easily be ordered online and shipped directly to the recipient. I have the name of a great site I've ordered from if you would like it. I prefer 'experience gifts' like movie, sports events and lunch certificates but I believe they fall into the same category as gift cards especially when not purchased specifically for the receiver.
