hi !

can u plz explain to me the meaning of "we run a clearance" in the following sentence:

We run a clearance for the purpose of collaboration with these people.

I think a clearance here means an official certification of trustworhiness, but "we run" I can't get it!

thx !

It's American idiom. To "run", in this context, means to "perform" or "carry out"

- We run a check to see if you have a criminal record/high blood pressure/outstanding parking tickets.

I understand the sentence in the same way you do.

It is poorly written.

To run a clearance usually means to hold a sale--a clearance sale. Clear out the old to make room for the new.

To run clearance has an entirely different meaning and might be the one intended in the sentence you provide. To run clearance means to make sure that nothing gets in the way.
