1. They went downstairs
2. They went to the downstair.

3. The burglars heard the siren of the police car.
4. The burglars heard the wail of the siren of the police car.

Which sentences are correct? I believe #1 and #4?

1,3 and 4 are all correct. 2 is absolutely wrong.

He heard the bird.

He heard the song of the bird.

He heard the strange haunting song of the bird.

He heard the strange haunting song that emerged from the beak of the bird.

He heard the strange haunting song that emerged from the long beak of the bird.

He heard the strange haunting song that emerged from the long red beak of the bird.

He heard the strange haunting song that emerged from the long curved red beak of the bird.

All these are correct.
