Some of the plainclothes custom officers slipped into the crowd and mingled with the passengers. They were trying to arrest a drugs trafficker.

Is 'slipped into' the correct verb? Should it be drug/drugs trafficker?

'Slipped into' is a fine word in this context. There are others, of course

Use drug trafficer, no matter how many different drugs he's dealing.
