Well, the viral illness known as chikungunya was found on Indian Ocean island Reunion in 2006; I haven't looked it up further..

The mosquitoes of Italy are probably still immune from the last DDT "adaptation sequence" of WWII.
I guess the swamp drainer Mussolini didn't get all the zanzare....
