I saw the following on the title of a chart:

Section N - Eligible Courses of Study for 2008

This list sets out the approved / accredited courses that are eligible for scholarship in 2008. The list is reviewed annually.

What does eligible mean?
What does scholarship mean?

(Yes, I have a dictionary, but the explanations are bewildering me.)

Thanks in advance!

Students taking approved/accredited courses are eligible for scholarship help.

A scholarship is awarded by a club, an organization, a business or the university/college.

Students (usually with excellent academic records) are awarded part or all of the tuition fees (the money it costs to take the course).

What does eligible mean and refer?

What is elibile for what?

"The students are elibible for the courses"?
"The courses are eligible for the criteria"?

In this case, "eligible" means "qualified".

The students are eligible for scholarship money because of their high grades and good recomendations--providing that they are taking courses that meet the requirements.

Tuition monies would probably not be paid for frivolous courses: "Practical Fortune Telling" or "Scrapbooking as Art"

Also, tuition money probably would not be paid if "Introduction to Physics" were taught in your Uncle's basement (and your Uncle has not background in physics or teaching) instead a similar course on campus taught by someone academically qualified.
