correct phrasing of sentence

Is it correct if I split the original sentence in bold into two and then rephrased as follows?

As I am late, I will take a taxi.

I am late. Therefore, I will take a taxi.

Is 'rephrased' correctly used in the above sentence? Or should I write: Is it correct if I split the original sentence in bold into two and then rephrase it as follows?

Many thanks.

Either of your sentences is correct. The past (subjunctive) tense of 'split' is the same as the present tense.

However, rephrasing refers to speech. Maybe you meant rewrote/rewrite?

Just to confirm: Is it correct if I split the original sentence in bold into two and then rephrased (it) as follows?

The above sentence does not require 'it', does it?

Many thanks.

Yes. "Therefore" does the work of "As" in the first sentence.
