1.Communication between everyone was in English, it being widely recognised and easy to converse in.
2.It being widely recognised and easy to converse in, English was the main tool of communication.
Are both sentences grammatically correct?

Either is acceptable. An alternative could be English was chosen for communication between everyone since it is widely recognized and easy to converse in. In America recognize is used as opposed to recognise which is used more in England.
