A passer-by sent Peter to hospital nearby.

Is 'sent' correct? Shouldn't it be 'took'?

Many thanks.

"Sent" means he directed or had someone take him to the hospital.
"Took" means he drove or accompanied him to the hospital.

It appears to me that the meaning here is the passer-by took Peter to hospital nearby. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are wrong, Young Liat. The passerby sent the dude to the hospital via cab or other method. The "sent" implies the journey took place without the passerby.

Let me put it this way, Young Liat. (I can call you Young, rather than Yoong, can I not? It has a more personal feel.)

If I sent you a message you would receive the message unaccompanied by me, but if I took you a message I would be there in person, handing you the message and smiling a crooked smile.

You're a farmer. Can I trust what you say? Catching creatures is your expertise. Is English also your forte?

You are showing signs of being clever, Young Liat, and that makes me uncomfortable.

Have you forgotten that I'm an 'intellectual'? I'm a non-native speaker, but hopefully I write like a native speaker.

I'm fine. Hope you're too. It is almost midnight in my country, Singapore. What time is it in your country?

Best wishes.

So you're fresh. I'm sleepy. It's all dark outside my house except for the lights.

Goodnight.

The link below leads to a new and very active thread, and all are welcome.

Gus, the passengers are clamoring for you to join us, either with or without one of your capybaras.. Capt. Stoat was the first one to specifically hope you would join us. (He does not have PM privileges, nor do I, so I'm hoping you will see this message directly on the thread.)
