I didn't manage to find the song.
I didn't get to find the song.

Are both sentences fine? Is there any difference in their meaning?

In the first, it's saying you looked for the song, but didn't find it.

In the second, it implies you didn't even get the opportunity to look for it.

aside...it makes me think of the sentences...

I didn't go.
I didn't get to go.

The first is simply a statement, you don't know how the person feels about it.

In the second, you feel he wanted to go, but wasn't given the opportunity.

Hmmmm...I would see them as correct English, for number one, and slangy English for number 2. However, American English speakers use "get", "got" "gotten" in ways that English (and Australian) English speakers find awkward and odd, so the "get to" sentence may be fine in American English.

I can see how Chai finds the difference of meaning she describes, but I do not necessarily see the same difference.
