John told his form teacher Miss Tan, "I did not know that you dislike me."

In reported speech which of the following is corect?

John told his form teacher Miss Tan that he had not known that she disliked him.

John told his form teacher Miss Tan that he did not know that she disliked him.

Many thanks.

Both are correct.

"I did not know that you dislike me" is a situation in the present, based on the present tense of "dislike". You would not say "I do not know" -- you would always use the past tense of DO.

Also, "had not known" is correct if you're talking about a dislike in the past.
