wow - until then, today's temps 20 degrees cooler!

After work, the kittens are generally happy to be let outside. They balked today - and wondering why, i walked the property and found one of the birdbaths had been knocked over{not an easy feat} and a dead bird not far from from the wreckage. Odd that whatever had the strength to take out the top of the birdbath, didn't take its prey. Cougar? Hawk? Super Jay?

The babies are nervous, so i'll be outdoors today scanning the sky and forest. Hope to God the critter wasn't a bear! yikes Shocked

ul, hope your new school years' terrific! Very Happy

Glad everyone had a safe and happy holiday. Smile

Thanks for the warning guys!

Kittens still nervous, so i'm staying outside with them til whatever critter is afoot decides to head back to the forest. Maybe a coincidence - however i'm not certain, but the deer haven't visited since yesterday either. A good idea not filling the pellet bin till the Fall season begins. Plus, a good rule, and one i've adhered to since moving here, is keeping trash bins locked safely away from predators - especially the coyotes.

Beth and ul, there haven't been bear tracks, but thats no indication that they arn't foraging nearby. Caution is the word. The only other animal large and strong enough to lift a cement birdfeeder tray is a cougar. Shocked

ul, soon the Fall months will begin, and we'll have all the wonderful colors of the season. Hoping nature sends you warmer days till then.

Dan, the year flew by so quickly, didn't it? Where do the days go...

It's supposed to be 33 celsius here tomorrow. S'ok as long as the night-time sleeping temps are good.

I got disconnected from email updates. Didn't notice it until just now.

Clicked.

Sen. Stevens is up to his old tricks. Don't know if you guys get these things, but....

We need your urgent action to make sure that Congress stands
firm against taxpayer subsidies for destroying America's
greatest temperate rainforest.

Please go to http://www.savebiogems.org/tongass/takeaction
right now and tell your senators and representative to protect
the Tongass, a thriving habitat for grizzly bears, salmon runs,
bald eagles and the elusive Alexander Archipelago wolf.

Thanks to pressure from you and other online activists, the
House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly in June to halt
taxpayer subsidies for destructive new logging roads in Alaska's
Tongass National Forest.

But Alaska's senior senator, Ted Stevens, is now working
feverishly behind closed doors to make sure that this
long-overdue legislation never sees the light of day. And he's
drafting his own, underhanded, amendment to restrict sharply the
public's ability to halt wasteful and devastating Tongass
logging in court.

Not romantic outside, just wet.
But inside- tea with ginger, some candles, some cakes and cookies, a good book, music and a working central heating.
The pope is in town- and more rain is falling. ( Das Wetter wird weisen, ob Engel reisen:wink: )

That's a typical A vs. D reaction, here done by the Austrian National Weather, Vienna subdivision, and not at all angle-related.

In my email today - some news that I hope I can take advantage of ...

Quote:
To warm you up for our 2007-2008 season, we hope you have some time to listen to a Tafelmusik concert on the internet. This performance was recorded live during our annual residency at the Klang und Raum Festival in Irsee, Germany on September 1, 2007 at the Klosterkirche at the Kloster Irsee. It is being aired on the Deutschlandradio station. Other than having attended the concert, this is the only opportunity to hear this performance!

Here's how you can listen on Monday, September 10, 2007. The broadcast begins at 2 pm our time (EDT).

Click on this link: www.dradio.de/dkultur/sendungen/konzert/660972/
When this page opens, there is a column on the right side of the page with the words LIVE-STREAM and, underneath, Deutschlandradio Kultur.
Under which you will see four format options to choose from. Hopefully one will work for you!

The concert:

Bruno Weil, director

Ronald Brautigam, piano

Tafelmusik Orchestra

Programme:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Piano concerto no. 24 in C Minor, K. 491 with Ronald Brautigam

At around 2:45 pm there will be a pause in the concert and Bruno Weil will speak (in German) about Haydn's Symphony "The Clock". After which will follow the broadcast of the performance of J. Haydn: Symphony no. 101 in D Major "The Clock".

We hope you enjoy the broadcast of the concert.

Thanks sue.

Received many alerts today - sent letters, etc.

Bill Moyers airs tonight from Virginia where he discusses hilltop removal mining with residents and those fighting to stop the administrations plan for relaxing mining restrictions. The following photos prove beyond doubt that there will be no recovery of lost habitat, streams, and wildlands. The photos were taken three years ago.

Heartbreaking images. I fear that we have yet to learn of all of the devastating consequences of such practices. It is criminal. The photos should be published in every print media, and aired on every network and cable news show.
