They are walking in a/the hot sun.

I believe 'the' is correct, but can 'a' be used. There is only one sun that shines on the earth. Hence, I believe ' ... a hot sun' does work. Am I corect?

Thanks.

It would be uncommon to say "walking in a hot sun" but not incorrect. It would infer that you feel maximum heat from the sun as opposed to the heat you would feel if there were clouds reducing the intensity of the heat you feel.
