I think much of Latin America speaks Spanish because it's easier to learn than English. Fewer irregular verbs, and the rules of grammer are more concise.
I really couldn't see Latin America speaking English. It just wouldn't go with the Latin personality.
But, if one day Latin America starts speaking English it might be helpful in getting a job in England, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or the US.
Spanish is just another European language. Spaniards are Europeans. They discovered America. Explored America. However, their Armada was sunk, and then things seemed to change.
Plus, the Golden Age of Spain was during the reign of the Moors (Moslems), so why is their so much orgulloso (pride) about Spain in its post Moorish era? Quien sabe?
