Is sentence correct?

From what I've read in books, 'is' is used when "There" starts the sentence.

Yoong--

Nonetheless there are many valid exceptions to this rule.

Hi Noddy

I mean the sentence itself. Is it correct?

Many thanks.

It's grammatical but not necessarily true (There were, There was, There is...)

Thanks for your reply that the sentence is grammatically correct.

In AmE, "There is/are". In BrE, "There is ... " if the first noun is singular, and "There are ... " if the first noun is plural. In AmE, 'are' is correct even if two or more of the nouns are singular.
