Is it correct to say: ''graphic /descriptive explanation''? If not, what other adjectives are more appropriate?

They are both fine. Other adjectives which you could apply to an explanation might include...

informative/uninformative
clear/obscure
helpful/unhelpful
concise/prolix

etc etc
