Not being too terribly far out of residency, I've had to learn a lot about medical economics on the fly. And the more I've learned, the more I think the hospital I work for is egregiously undercompensating their primary care physicians. But finding comparative data on the web has been shockingly difficult.
This is a call to other doctors, requesting assitance with the following:
1) Are there online forums for physicians to discuss their contracts and productivity measures?
2) Is there any way you can access Relative Value Unit (RVU) benchmarks online without paying hundreds of dollars to one of the organizations that compiles such data?
3) Have any of you encountered your hospital's compensating for the recent CMS/Medicare increase in RVUs for office visits by simply increasing your RVU threshold for your base salary?
My hospital recently did this to most of the primary care physicians in its group in order to preserve the exorbinant salaries of its subspecialists, and prevent the primary care physicians' salaries from increasing.
And I'm mad about it. And I'm shocked more doctors aren't.
Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can assemble ammo for my next annual meeting regarding my production/compensation?
I'm not a physician, but I'm glad you post here, am interested and so far agree with a lot of your points of view, so... this is by way of a
"bookmark".
