Is comma necessary?

Agent Ryan walks into the room, dressed in his morning attire, and finds Laoriz asleep on the couch, with a bag of chips in his hand.

Is the comma after 'couch' necessary?

Many thanks.

Yoong Liat, have you the rules for punctuation? There are, if I recall correctly, 11 rules for commas! Would you like me to find you a link to that information? Comma usage is frequently misunderstood or not known.

Here, these might help - I think the second one is a little clearer and easier to read and understand.

Mame, thank you.

I found this funny, ironic, and confusing. The first link says "Note: Commas after the year and state name are the ones most frequently forgotten".

In the 2nd link, exercise #1, #14, the comma was forgotten after the state name. Confused

TTH, Not a mistake. A comma does not go after the state in an address with a zip code:

123 Elm Street, Chicago, IL 12345

This is correct.

Roberta
I had never used a comma after a state name with a zip code.

The link that Mame provided (2nd one) exercise #1, #14, one cannot get the correct answer. It is not an option.

You're right. The correct answer is not an option. C'est la vie.

Thanks for responding Roberta. I hope both Yoong Liat and Mame caught that too.
I didn't do all the exercises so I don't know if any other mistakes were made.

So, the information in the first link is misleading and the second link has at least one question
that doesn't allow for a correct answer. No wonder people get confused.
