Is the sentence correctly punctuated?

remove the 3rd comma.
the 2nd comma is optional...

The sentence is more graceful without repeating "the":

Jocks, cheerleaders and nerds all make high school a good experience.

R.P. is right about the commas.

I was taught not to use a comma where a joining word was used. Research proves that there is much debate on the subject of the serial or oxford comma.

Yes... some style guides recommend the serial comma while others discourage it. Several A2Kers came up with a few examples in which ambiguities can arise in either case: see my thread on The Serial Comma.
