It is the season for watermelons, but not one of the watermelons I tried is/was sweet.

I think it should be 'was'. Am I correct?

"Is" present tense, "was" past tense

Is the season - it is currently the season - Present tense

I tried - I tasted them previously - Past tense

Your usage of "Was" is correct. The word was used correctly.
