Nah. I doubt even the grad students (it is a grad course
)could handle that without taking some sort of preliminary course. He'd have to talk to us like 6-year olds.
There is a lot of Latin spoken in the class though--he'll ask you stuff and expect you to understand/answer, it's just that the vocabulary can be sort of a problem. We all know how to talk about cavalry maneuvers, but day-to-day stuff...not so much.
However, we do have a "latin dinner group," where we just go out to a restaurant and speak latin for a couple hours. It's a blast, and you learn a LOT...like the Latin word for salad (
acetaria). I don't think I said anything at all the first two times I went...then I realized why everyone else was drinking wine. It really helps o.0
