As an English leaner,we have to read so many novels to know more about western culture. However,usually the novels are difficult to read. What can we do?

Read as much as you can. Fluency is a product of time at the task.

That's a good one. It automatically makes the book more interesting.

Find books in English that match your interests and read them instead.

@SweetHao1996,
You have to tell your teachers that they haven't got a clue as to how to teach English.

But that won't happen.

@SweetHao1996,
A friend of mine got his degree in English by watching film versions (e.g. "Tom Jones") for the plot, and learning a few quotes and critiques. He rarely read the set book.

@JTT,
Alas...friend now deceased. I doubt that it was divine retribution.

Come to think of it, he also used copies of "Classics Illustrated" - the comic book version of the classics.

@SweetHao1996,
Here are some excellent books that are in written in English and are revealing about Western culture. Most of these are 150-200 pages long (don't quote me on that), and are written in an enjoyable style.

The Pearl , John Steinbeck
Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller
The WatchmenA. Moore, D. Gibbons, J. Higgins
The Awakening Kate Chopin
Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck (a personal favorite)
The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald

A bit of an American tendency there, but not to a fault Smile

@tsarstepan,
Usually my teachers tell us to read classic novels which donnot arouse my interests.

@SweetHao1996,
That might make me feel more (boring) BORED.

ING means the effect is from "me" to others. "Me" is boring others.
ED means something is having the effect on "me". I am more bored by the books.

I am interestING. -->the effect is away from me to others.

I am interestED. <----- the effect is from others/from other things to me.
