Someone please give me some ideas how to handle this.......My ex-wife and I have a 11 yr old boy. Her birthday is coming up and she sent an email saying it was gift ideas for my son to get her for her birthday....her ideas were from Victoria Secret.....which...I find inappropriate. ..am I right to think that? I didn't respond thinking it would just go away. But last night she sent a mail with subject being Christmas ideas for my son to buy....the items she chose were nighty shirts.....from Victoria Secret. How do I handle this in a civil way? What do I tell her? I know what I'd like to tell her but i dont want to start a war. We have been divorced for three yrs...i was not at fault. I need some help......thanks

@choke,
Calmly say that you think that this is inappropriate. If she really wants something from Victoria's Secret, and she wants it to be from your son, she can ask him to buy her a gift certificate.

@choke,
My take is that she's messing with you, but using your son as the vehicle. It's inappropriate on two levels.

I'd tell her to either make some appropriate suggestions, or you'll have him get her an appliance. Everyone can use a new toaster.

Ignore it.

(What's with this new thing of people TELLING other people what gift to buy them)

You and your son pick out something nice - or give her a gift certificate to that store. Her son buying her nightclothes is inappropriate, anyway.

@choke,
To steal a cheesy movie line from my youth... "A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?"

She is playing with you. Of course it is inappropriate. And the most inappropriate part is that she is putting your 11 year old son in the middle of this little game. You shouldn't play.

My advice is to ignore it. You have no obligation to have anything to do for your ex-wife's birthday. There is no reason that you need to be involved in your son's gift to your ex-wife.

I wouldn't even respond to these emails. I would just ignore them. If I felt obligated to get something... it would be something innocuous (maybe a toaster).

@maxdancona,
This is skating on thin ice and using your son as a pawn.

Perhaps her next step is for her to send you photos of herself in Victoria Secret lingerie.

@Ragman,
In that case, these photos are relevant to this thread. They should be posted here.

Thank you for all your answers thus far...I thought maybe I was blowing it out of proportion but something was telling me that it just wasn't right. Thank you for your validation and thank you for the much needed advice.

You know, VS isn't all sexy lingerie.

They also sell robes, pajamas, outerwear, colognes, powders, etc.

@Lordyaswas,
This is what rubbers look like in England, right? (although I am not sure if I would know how to put one one).

I'm waiting for them to add a kitchen section, including those fancy silicon spatulas.
